Stephen Fry's Spreading the word
As Stephen investigates, Speaking is instinctive to children to talk to each other. Writing however is a whole new invention. Methods of communication through pictorial drawings. This was the first of the cuneiform language started.
The programme was very interesting as there has been more detail of the History of written language. The way how language has been updated into the the text we all use everyday, is all been used from the roseta stone. The Roseta Stone has 3 different languages engraved into it, these languages are Ancient Egyptian Hieroglyphs , Greek and Egyptian Demonic script ; These have made the possibility of humans to communicate using these letters into now words we speak.
We then had other breakthrough with the human language. Pictures began to form letter structure and this then later developed and formed our now stable alphabet letters, The Phoenicians made this possible.
The most interesting part of the programme was the story of how the Chinese still stuck with there pictorial word forms. These different symbols are learnt by each child and there are around 2,000 different symbols. Also the symbols dont give any hints of how to say the words, this is a very interesting topic.
